Egyptian star investor Samih Sawiris has turned the Andermatt area into a tourism magnet. Now he is going to help another Swiss mountain resort.

Andermatt investor, Egyptian oligarch Samih Sawiris, has found a new field of activity in Switzerland.

Numerous media, such as Swiss Television “SRF” or “Inside Paradeplatz“, reported on Wednesday that the famous financier and project developer Sawiris is joining the luxury hotel Kulm in Arosa.

Spice up five-star hotel

The Egyptian, who created a success story with his ski resort around the luxury hotel ‘The Chedi’ in Andermatt from a dreary, formerly military wasteland in the Swiss mountains, should thus help another tourist region of Switzerland on the jump.

The financier has even acquired a minority stake in the Arosa Kulm Hotel, the report added. Although this land acquisition for him, as a foreigner, would need an exemption permit.

New buildings are to be erected on the hotel site in Arosa in the Grisons with the help of tourism visionary Sawiris.

Start of something big?

The Egyptian is supporting investor Urs Wietlisbach, one of the three founders of the Zug-based private equity boutique Partners Group. The two businessmen know each other from other projects. Now they apparently want to improve the Graubünden mountain region as a tourist destination.

They are starting with the Graubünden luxury hotel Arosa Kulm, which Wietlisbach bought last year. The traditional hotel has been operating since 1882.

Apartments with hotel service, just like in Andermatt, is the idea Wietlisbach enthused about the new project to the financial portal “Inside Paradeplatz.”
