U.S. President Donald Trump has allowed himself to be dragged into a war with Iran for no good reason. The U.S. is already certain to emerge as the loser.
The United States of America has allowed itself to be drawn into a seemingly complex and protracted conflict by Israel’s hardliners.
Tehran well prepared
U.S. President Donald Trump gave in to the pressure from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and agreed to a renewed attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran.
But the mullah regime in Tehran has been preparing for this moment for decades.
Logically, the elimination of 86-year-old Ayatollah Khamenei, Israel’s chief enemy, has also been part of the planning scenarios.
Switzerland Used the Same Strategy
What options does a country like Iran have to defend itself against the overwhelming power of Israel and the United States?
Actually, none – unless the country draws U.S. allies into the conflict.
Switzerland knows this situation very well itself. Admittedly, not as intensely as in the case of the Islamic Republic of Iran, but the principle is the same.
When Libya’s dictator Gaddafi took two Swiss nationals hostage, the Swiss Confederation was unable to help the managers of the energy technology company ABB.
In the end, the Federal Council decided to involve the EU in the problem by having Switzerland block the Gaddafi clan from the Schengen travel system. Then Brussels took over the resolution of the Swiss issue.
Destroying the dream of paradise
In Iran, the situation is now similar in principle.
With their backs against the wall, the Iranians have virtually no way to persuade the U.S. and Israel to abandon their war of aggression. Consequently, they are attacking neighboring countries that are supposed to be working with U.S. President Trump to bring the war to an end.
This is being done through images of luxury hotels in Dubai engulfed in flames, as well as airport structures, thereby shattering the United Arab Emirates’ vision of a dream tourist destination and real estate paradise.
Fueling inflation in the West
This is being done through chaos at airports in Doha, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, and elsewhere, as well as by disrupting the travel plans of millions.
But it is also being done by making the transport of crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) through the Strait of Hormuz impossible.
People around the world, even in the remotest village of the Swiss Alps, will soon feel the consequences of the explosion in oil and natural gas prices.
Putin Already in the 5th Year of War
The Americans, on the other hand, had hoped that Iranians would pour into the streets en-masse to celebrate the death of Ayatollah Khamenei.
However, the regime is firmly in control. As long as it remains unclear how things will proceed, a collapse of the regime through mass demonstrations is highly unlikely.
It is easy to start a war. But the main problem with war is: How can it end with face saved, without appearing to be the loser?
Russian President Vladimir Putin learned this the hard way in Ukraine. The Kremlin leader thought he would have conquered Kyiv in a matter of days.
Now Russia’s exhausting war of aggression against Kyiv is already in its fifth year. U.S. President Trump, who never actually wanted to wage war, is now essentially making the same mistake as Putin.
Credibly Defeated
The only remaining solution is to cease hostilities and work toward a diplomatic resolution.
But that will only happen when more and more people in the U.S. ask: Why must U.S. soldiers die in the Middle East, and why are prices rising in American supermarkets and gas stations?
The U.S. is already a clear loser in this war. Until now, it had always kept Israel’s belligerence toward the Islamic Republic of Iran in check.
As the Jewish state’s protector in the Middle East, the Americans ensured stability with credibility. Now that credibility is gone.
